Standing high above the horseshoe bend of the River Wye, our hotel enjoys some of the best views of the surrounding countryside. The Royal is a majestic grade II Georgian country hotel full of character, but with many modern amenities. It is situated at the top of the town next to St Mary's Church, just a 2-minute walk from the centre. Standing high on the sandstone cliffs we have what is arguably the best view in the country, particularly when the sun sets over the river and valley below, whilst you relax on our terrace sipping a glass of wine or enjoying one of our fine ales.
The Royal is a majestic, beautiful hotel dating back to 1837. A very friendly and warm welcome awaits you. Refurbishment work completed in December 2006 has given the building a new lease of life. The hotel is now access-friendly into the restaurant and bar. Being a grade ll listed building has created a few problems extending this to the bedrooms, but the hotel is working on it. The changes are fantastic, though in character. Come and enjoy the new ‘Riverview Bar’, and, as the name suggests, you can enjoy the magnificent views across the Wye Valley and river below.
